Phison is currently the only provider of high-performance PCIe 5.0 NVMe controllers for consumer SSDs that are widely available. However, competition is increasing with Chinese SSD controller manufacturers MaxioTek and InnoGrit, as well as Taiwanese company Silicon Motion, set to release competing controllers this year. Realtek, another Taiwanese company, will also be entering the market with their upcoming RTS5782 PCIe 5.0 NVMe controller, although they have not disclosed a release schedule. Despite Realtek's reputation for budget-friendly products, the RTS5782 will be an 8-channel controller supporting 3600 MT/s NAND, with a dedicated DRAM cache using DDR4, LPDDR3, LPDDR4, or LPDDR4x memory. It is expected to achieve sequential read speeds of up to 14 GB/s, sequential write speeds of up to 12 GB/s, and random read and write IOPS of 2500K.
Realtek is also developing two new DRAM-less models, the PCIe 4.0 RTS5776DL and the PCIe 5.0 RTS5781DL, both supporting 4-channel flash and NAND speeds of up to 3600 MT/s. Engineering samples of the RTS5776DL are anticipated to be available by the end of this year, with sequential read and write speeds of up to 7400 MB/s and random read and write IOPS of 1200K. The RTS5781DL is expected to enter the engineering sample stage in early 2025, with sequential read and write performance of 10 GB/s and random read and write IOPS of 1400K. Realtek also showcased the RTS5736DL at Computex, claiming it to be the world's lowest power DRAM-less SATA SSD controller, supporting sizes up to 8 TB. Realtek suggests that the RTS5736DL is an ideal pairing with a USB 3.x bridge chip for external drives.
