MSI is gearing up to release a fresh batch of 16-pin power adapters with yellow tips for select models of GeForce RX 50 series "Blackwell" GPU-based graphics cards, as per a recent report by VideoCardz. While an official announcement regarding the new color coding for power connectors is still pending, product images have surfaced on the MSI website. The yellow accents serve as a visual aid when connecting the adapter to a graphics card—indicating full insertion when the yellow tip is completely concealed by the surroundings. MSI's latest images suggest that dual 8-pin to single 16-pin adapters will likely be included with the GeForce RTX 5070 models, while the RTX 5070 Ti and 5080 variants will come with three 8-pin ended adapters. A 4-way splitter, designed for flagship GeForce RTX 5090 cards, appears to be quite intricate.
The MAG GL PSU series made its debut in 2023, featuring a dual-color safety measure in response to feedback from customers and the community. MSI addressed concerns about power supply connectors burning out when used with high-end graphics cards, attributing the issue to improper plugging and connector pin fallout. The new cable design aims to tackle both problems effectively. Despite the introduction of the 12V-2x6 standard as a successor to the problematic 12VHPWR standard, manufacturers, including NVIDIA and its board partners, are sticking with the original PCIe Gen 5 16-pin connector for the upcoming GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs. At the recent CES trade event, TechPowerUp examined ZOTAC's innovative 12WHPWR "Safety Light" feature, which provides a visual warning in case of connection issues.
