Last week, ASUS teased its upcoming 30th anniversary special edition GPU, the GeForce RTX 5090 ROG MATRIX SKU. Today, ASUS officially revealed the design of the card, confirming that it is air-cooled with four large fans. The design closely resembles ASUS's RTX 5090 Astral GPU, featuring three fans in the front and one in the back for a push-pull air cooling setup. The GPU shroud has a bold ROG red design with a unique ring on one fan, displaying the ROG MATRIX logo on an acrylic plate.
ASUS offers an option for BTF-supplied power delivery with a 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector, allowing for a total power setting of up to 800 Watts, surpassing the regular 575 Watts of the Founders Edition GPU. ASUS claims this provides a 10% performance boost on its own, with a boost clock frequency of 2,730 MHz.
To enhance heat dissipation and minimize voltage drop, ASUS uses 3 Oz copper PCB layers. Liquid metal is used for die-to-heatsink contact to maximize heat dissipation, necessary for a card that can consume 800 W of power. Pricing and final specifications, such as memory clock, have not been announced yet, but it is assumed that the card will come overclocked out of the box. Professional overclocking labs have yet to test the card for serious tuning.
With only 1,000 units available for sale, it remains to be seen if anyone will attempt extreme overclocking records with this limited edition GPU.
