Kioxia Unveils BG8 Series SSDs with PCIe 5.0 Performance for Mainstream PCs

Kioxia Corporation has introduced the KIOXIA BG8 Series solid state drives (SSDs), marking a significant advancement in its client SSD portfolio. Engineered for PC OEMs, the BG8 Series brings PCIe 5.0 speeds to mainstream laptops, desktops, and notebooks, offering a blend of high performance, energy efficiency, and versatile design options for modern computing needs.

Next-Generation Performance with BiCS FLASH Gen 8

The KIOXIA BG8 Series is built on Kioxia’s eighth-generation BiCS FLASH TLC-based 3D flash memory, delivering substantial improvements over its predecessor. Users can expect up to 47% faster sequential read speeds and 67% faster sequential write speeds. Random read and write operations are also enhanced by 44% and 30%, respectively. The BG8 Series achieves sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s. Random performance reaches up to 1.4 million IOPS for reads and 1.3 million IOPS for writes, ensuring responsive performance across a variety of client workloads.

Efficient, Flexible Design for Modern Systems

Designed without onboard DRAM, the KIOXIA BG8 Series utilizes a Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature, which leverages system memory to optimize the balance between performance, power consumption, and cost. This approach is particularly beneficial for slim and energy-conscious devices.

The BG8 Series is available in multiple M.2 form factors, including Type 2230, Type 2242, and Type 2280, supporting a wide range of system designs and installation requirements. This flexibility makes the BG8 Series suitable for everything from ultra-thin laptops to mainstream desktops.

Advanced Features and Security

  • Compliant with PCIe 5.0 (Gen 5 x4) and NVMe 2.0d standards
  • Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) support based on TCG Opal version 2.02
  • Available in 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB capacities
  • Optimized for slim and mainstream client PCs

The KIOXIA BG8 Series is currently being sampled by select PC OEM partners. Systems featuring these new SSDs are expected to reach the market starting in the second quarter of 2026, bringing next-generation storage performance to a broader range of users.
