ASUS China Distributes Tianxuan 5 Pro Laptop Review Samples

ASUS China has provided media outlets in the region with review samples of the Tianxuan 5 Pro laptop. A video review was uploaded to Bilibili yesterday and shared by 9550pro. The reviewer, "Wheat Milk Mitsu," thoroughly tested the laptop's AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX processor, conducting benchmarking exercises in Cinebench R23, PCMark 10, Counter Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus, and more. The Ryzen 9 7940HX APU, also known as the "Dragon Range," was previously seen in the specification sheets for ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (2024) laptop models. This mobile processor is essentially a lower-clocked version of the Ryzen 9 7945HX. While the Ryzen 8040 "Hawk Point" series has received more attention in Western markets, there is occasional coverage of the older Zen 4 "Dragon Range" parts.

Despite having a lower base clock (2.4 GHz) and Turbo (5.2 GHz), the slightly weaker Ryzen 9 7940HX processor still performs well compared to its higher clock sibling. The Tianxuan laptop, which is equivalent to the TUF Gaming series in China, was equipped with a GeForce RTX 4070 mobile GPU and 16 GB of DDR5 5600 RAM. Synthetic benchmark results in Cinebench R23 show a marginal 3.7% difference, and multi-core figures show an even smaller difference of 1%. Both Dragon Range APUs demonstrated similar performance in gaming scenarios, although the 7945HX outperformed in Counter-Strike 2 frame rates, achieving 328 fps at 1440p and 378 fps at 1080p compared to the 7940HX's 265 fps and 308 fps, respectively. AMD's naming schemes for its mobile offerings can be confusing, but there are rumors of a 7840HX SKU joining the Dragon Range family in Q1 2024. Some Western media outlets speculate that a few of these parts may be available in global markets, but AMD's Marketing HQ has not made any official announcements. It's a peculiar situation.
