Crucial introduced its Crucial T700 Gen 5 SSD family in the middle of last year, which was considered a standout product in their new Pro Series family due to its exceptional performance. The T700 boasted impressive sequential read/write speeds of up to 12,400 MB/s and 11,800 MB/s respectively. Two months before its eventual launch in May 2023, details about the Micron 232-layer TLC NAND-equipped SSD range were leaked. Now, a similar situation seems to be occurring with a related product in early 2024. Hardware investigator momomo_us has discovered the Crucial T705 and T705 Limited Edition models, with the latter featuring a special white variation of the company's "SSD5" corrugated passive heatsink design, as seen in W1zzard's T700 review. The "SSD3" model suffix indicates a basic package without the premium aluminum and nickel-plated copper heatsink.
An alleged specification sheet for the T705 was leaked on social media over the weekend, in response to momomo_us's initial post. Crucial appears to be aiming for industry-leading performance once again, with their 2 TB T705 model leading the pack with read and write speeds of 14,500 MB/s and 12,700 MB/s respectively. The 4 TB model, which has the highest capacity, falls slightly behind with read and write speeds of 14,100 MB/s and 12,400 MB/s respectively. The 1 TB model exhibits relatively slower speeds of 13,600 MB/s read and 10,200 MB/s write. The leaked sheet does not provide details about Crucial's choice of controller, DRAM cache numbers, or endurance figures. While the Micron 232-layer TLC NAND is expected to be used again, it remains to be seen if Phison's E26 controller will make a comeback, potentially bringing technical issues with it.
